#3: design development

Manufacturing first came to mind with this assignment. Brompton being evenly split with light commercial and industrial sites along side with modest housing created an interesting tension between contexts that i began to explore. Ideas quickly set into my form making and dictated every decision i made. my house is disguised as a piece of machinery crossed with a storage, industrial unit. Collaborating with my neighbour Ruth, we discussed how these houses could work together theoretically and formally. Quickly we agreed that basing our theory on the past textile industries would give us some grounding. While Ruths design touches upon the manufacturing of textiles and how that informs things spatially, i concentrated on the import export and the typical industrial stereotype. This idea runs through my design, by the spatial movement of the occupants inside and out down to the construction of the house itself. Heree are some of the early concept designs.
